There is the perennial debate every year on how late is too late to say “Happy New Year!” Despite it being late January already, I firmly believe if it’s your first time chatting with someone in the new year, and it’s still January, it’s fair. With that being said, a very happy new year to all who kindly read this newsletter! I hope your 2024 has gotten off to a great start. Council has certainly been busy and I have 4 items for today’s note.

  • MLK Jr. ACT-SO Student Honors Luncheon — This January, I had the honor of attending the MLK Jr. ACT-SO Student Honors Luncheon, a remarkable event celebrating the achievements of our talented students in the WJCC Schools. It was truly inspiring to witness the dedication and excellence of these young leaders, who are the future of our community.
  • Honoring Senator Tommy Norment — Our City Council had the privilege of honoring retired State Senator Tommy Norment for his 36 years of unwavering service to our area. Senator Norment’s contributions have been instrumental in shaping the community we cherish today, and it was a heartfelt moment to recognize his commitment with a Williamsburg flag.
  • Establishing a VA250 Commission — In this month’s City Council meeting we established the “250 (VA250) Commission” to plan for Williamsburg’s significant role in celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary in 2026. This commission will spearhead initiatives and events to commemorate this occasion, honoring our rich history and the bright future ahead.
  • Inaugural Williamsburg “Last Word” Comedy FestivalGet your tickets for this weekend! I’m thrilled to invite you to the inaugural Williamsburg “Last Word” Comedy Festival. This event promises to be a weekend of joy and laughter, showcasing some of the best comedic talents of our mid-Atlantic area. You can find tickets here.

As your City Councilor, I have always been committed to keeping you informed on local news. This is my 43rd consecutive newsletter after all! Your feedback and participation are invaluable to our collective success. Please feel free to reach out with your thoughts, concerns, or ideas.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Let’s make 2024 a year of prosperity for Williamsburg.

Yours in service,

Caleb
