Happy New Year! As we kick off 2024, I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates from the end of last year. December has been a month filled with accomplishments, celebrations, and progress for Williamsburg, four of which are described in the highlights below.

  • Mace Bearer’s Award — Congratulations to Bobby Braxton on receiving this year’s Mace Bearer’s Award, Williamsburg equivalent to a “key to the city” award. Bobby (pictured above) is a true pillar of the community. He is a former Councilmember who has spent years leading volunteer boards for our City’s betterment, including the Community Action Agency and the First Night Board of Directors. Thank you for your lifelong service, Bobby.
  • Grand Illumination — The magic of the season came alive with the annual Grand Illumination, a dazzling fireworks show that painted the night sky with bursts of color and cheer. I found this outstanding video of the fireworks, so please click the link to see for yourself! A heartfelt thank you to all who joined us in making this tradition a glowing success.
  • Amy Chen Appointed to School Board — Williamsburg continues to invest in the future with our appointment of Amy Chen to the School Board. As both an educator and curriculum writer, Amy brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to this vital role. Congratulations, Amy! We are confident that under your guidance, our schools will continue to flourish and provide an enriching environment for the young minds of Williamsburg.
  • New Williamsburg Police Department HQ on the Horizon — At our December Council meeting, we voted unanimously to complete a “Construction Management Services Contract” with MBP for the construction of a state-of-the-art Williamsburg Police Department Headquarters. This 42,800 square foot facility will be equipped to meet the evolving needs of our community and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

As we bid farewell to 2023, let’s carry the spirit of unity, progress, and community into the new year. I look forward to the continued growth and success we’ll achieve together in 2024!

Yours in Service,

Caleb
