Newsletter — April 2023

This rainy Sunday morning felt like the perfect time to reflect on the month of April in my monthly newsletter. With luck, these showers will bring May flowers! This month, we celebrated anniversaries and ribbon cuttings, while also progressing the FY2024 budget. Read on for recent updates.

• Virginia Beer Company turns 7 — A huge congratulations to the team at VBC. At the beginning of the month, they celebrated their 7th anniversary in business here in Williamsburg. Co-founded by two W&M graduates, VBC has been a community staple now since its opening. Not only are they well-regarded locally, but their beers have also won international brewing competitions! • Welcome, California Tortilla — Pictured above you can see the moment we cut the ribbon at California Tortilla, welcoming the restaurant chain’s 9th Virginia location to Midtown Row. Franchise owner, Tejas Patel (right), delivered remarks about his excitement to grow their business in Williamsburg. I stopped in for a burrito recently and loved it! I hope you’ll consider doing the same, their address is: 201 Monticello Ave Unit 4115.
• Council Work Session: VPCC & Budget — I wanted to highlight our Work Session this past month, particularly two items within it. The first is Council was overjoyed to welcome President Brannon of the Virginia Peninsula Community College to give a briefing on our area’s student population at her school. President Brannon has been at VPCC now since 2021. She quickly got to work and, in the midst of COVID, postponed her swearing in celebrations. Last year, she was kind enough to give me and Vice Mayor Pat Dent a tour of VPCC. We are excited to see her continued success as an important regional partner!
• OTMDC Board Retreat — Last, but certainly not least, I capped off the month this past Friday at a board retreat for the Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center. This is one of my Council board appointments, which I have been serving on now for over two years. At the Retreat, we talked about the health of Olde Towne and planned for our upcoming Gala on September 30th. Click the link above to learn more about OTMDC’s work!
